WNBA New York Liberty vs Connecticut Sun Spread and Prediction

Two teams sitting on opposite sides of the Eastern Conference are clashing today, when the second Connecticut Sun (10-9), who want to end a small losing streak, are hosting the fifth New York Liberty (5-14), who have been terrible for the past three weeks, having won only once in their last nine games.

Date/Time: 07-11-2017 11:30 EDT

Spread: Connecticut Sun -8.5

Total: +162.5

Connecticut Sun have a 10-9 record (8-11 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the second place of the East. They have lost three of their last four matches and in their last game they lost on the road against the Las Vegas Aces with a 90-94 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Chiney Ogwumike with 15.3 ppg, adding 7.8 boards per game. She is followed by Jasmine Thomas with 12.6 ppg and a team high 4.5 dimes per game, while Courtney Williams adds 12.3 ppg and 6 boards per game.

New York Liberty have a 5-14 record (7-12 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the second to last place of the East. They have lost eight of their last nine matches and in their last game they lost at home against the Dallas Wings with an 87-97 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Tina Charles with 20.1 ppg, adding a team high 6.8 boards per game. She is followed by Epiphany Prince with 8.8 ppg, while Kia Nurse adds 8.6 ppg.

In their previous meeting earlier this season, Connecticut won on the road with an 86-88 score. Connecticut are 5-1 at home this season, while New York are 2-6 on the road. Connecticut have the second-best offense in the league with 86.5 ppg to New York’s third-worse of 77.4 and they are also better defensively, allowing 82.6 ppg to New York’s third-worse of 83.9. They also have better percentages both in field goals (44.9% to 42.1%) and in 3-pointers (34.3% to 32.1%). Connecticut also grab more boards (37 to 33), while New York only dish more dimes per game (19.4 to 18.9) and both teams commit almost the same number of turnovers per game (13.9 to 14.2). Both teams are struggling lately and Vegas odds give Connecticut a -8.5 spread and while they are the favorite for the win, don’t expect them to beat the odds as New York will force a closer game than that once again.

New York Liberty vs Connecticut Sun Prediction: New York Liberty +8.5 (-110)
