In this battle between two squads sitting on the top three positions of their respective conference, the third in the East Connecticut Sun (10-10), who have won only once in their last five games, are hosting the second in the West Phoenix Mercury (14-7), who have two straight defeats and both teams are looking to bounce back.

Date/Time: 07-13-2017 19:00 EDT

Spread: Connecticut Sun -3.5

Total: +167.5

Connecticut Sun have a 10-10 record (8-12 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the third place of the East. They have lost four of their last five matches and in their last game they lost at home against the New York Liberty with a 76-79 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Chiney Ogwumike with 15.4 ppg, adding 7.9 boards per game. She is followed by Jasmine Thomas with 12.6 ppg and a team high 4.4 dimes per game, while Courtney Williams adds 12.5 ppg and 5.8 boards per game.

Phoenix Mercury have a 14-7 record (13-8 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the second place of the West and the whole league. They have back-to-back losses and in their last game they lost on the road against the Dallas Wings with a 72-101 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Brittney Griner with 20 ppg, adding a team high 7.2 boards per game. She is followed by Diana Taurasi with 19.6 ppg and a team high 4.7 dimes per game, while DeWanna Bonner adds 15.4 ppg, 6.3 boards and 3.1 dimes per game.

Phoenix have won both previous meetings against Connecticut, both at home by 17 and 7 points. Connecticut are 5-2 at home this season, while Phoenix are 9-4 on the road. Sun have the third-best offense in the league with 86 ppg to Mercury’s 82.7, while Mercury are better defensively, allowing 80.1 ppg to Sun’s 82.5. Mercury have a better 3-point percentage (35.7% to 34%), while both teams have almost identical field goal percentage (45.1% to 44.8%). Sun lead the league in rebounding, grabbing 37.1 to Mercury’s second-worse of 31.7 and commit fewer turnovers (14.1 to 14.6), while Mercury are better both in assists made (20.4 to 18.9). Both teams are struggling lately but Phoenix have been playing much better throughout the season. Vegas odds give Connecticut a -3.5 spread but don’t expect them to beat the odds and pick Phoenix for the road win.
