Hosts Russia made a tremendous start in the World Cup, when they destroyed Saudi Arabia in the premiere. The 2nd round of games starts on Tuesday, when they will entertain Egypt. Egypt fought really hard without Salah against Uruguay but lost due to a late goal. There is still hope for the Egyptians, but they will definitely have to defeat Russia in this match. Russia would also like to win here as they will play against Uruguay in the final match.  World Cup Russia vs Egypt Spread and Prediction.

Date/Time: 6-19-18, 14:00 EDT

Spread: Egypt +0.5

Total: 2 Goals

Russia did their duty in the premiere, and not only defeated Saudi Arabia, but destroyed them. It wasn’t a very entertaining first half, but Russia took the lead at the 12th minute with Gazinskiy. They were unlucky to see their best midfielder, Dzagoev, suffer an injury just 12 minutes later and was replaced by Cheryshev. It was Cheryshev who scored Russia’s 2nd goal at the 43rd, before Dzyuba scored for the 3rd time at the 71st. Cheryshev doubled his personal tally at the 91st minute, while Golovin scored a fifth goal at the 94th minute for the final 0-5. Russia have now taken a huge advantage towards qualifying but will definitely need a win over Egypt.

On the other hand, Egypt were really unlucky in the first match. Despite playing without the unfit Mohamed Salah, Egypt actually held strong for the entire match. They did seem a little out of synch, but Egypt stood pretty strong. However, they conceded a late goal at the 89thminute from a set piece to eventually lose by 1-0. There is still a lot of speculation as to whether Mohamed Salah will play or not. Egypt will be a really strong side if he comes back against Russia. They have some solid players in the midfield, and also a very solid defense.

Russia did great in the opener and destroyed Saudi Arabia. The 5 goals will give them a nice edge in the case of tiebreakers. However, they are not out of the woods just yet. Egypt will play their final card in this match and will come here to win.

This is not going to be easy for Russia, as Egypt can even threaten them without Salah in the lineup. He is supposed to have been protected in order to play in against Russia, but it is still a mystery. In any case, I feel that Egypt can cover the spread here, and I hope that Salah gets to play even as a sub.
